1 Corinthians 6:18–20 (KJV)Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

What it is speaking to me:

I spent weeks building an isolation room in our basement. An iso room keeps the wrong sounds out and the right sounds in. It takes a lot of effort to build one. Real intention goes into the layout of the studs, how the walls are insulated and sealed, how the room is lit, how air gets in and out, and a million other little details.

And the devil really is in the details, because an iso room is all about the cracks. Where air can get through, so can sound. So much of the work is sealing gaps, covering cracks, and minimizing openings. You can stagger the studs, pack the walls with insulation, and hang double layers of drywall with special never-drying glue (I did all of those things). But if there's a crack under the door, none of that work matters much.

That is what 1 Corinthians 6 sounds like to me. Paul doesn't say, "Be careful around sexual sin." He says, "Flee fornication." He treats the body as something worth sealing, because it's where God lives: "your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost." To the world it's a small crack, but to God it ruins the room.

I didn't build that room for myself. I built it for a purpose, so something good can be recorded there. Paul says the same: "ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body." God created us, built us for a purpose, and bought us with a price. Let's keep the bad "sounds" out, so that in the room God built, we can hear Him well.

What is it saying to you?

  • Where am I trying to negotiate with something God has told me to flee?

  • If my body really is a temple, what have I been allowing inside that doesn't belong there?

  • What would change this week if I took seriously that I was bought with a price?

What are we going to do about it?

Today, name a 'crack' in your life, whether it's overeating, substances, or sexual temptation, and make one specific choice to seal it.
