DAVID'S DAILY
DEVOTIONAL
Photo by Andrik Langfield on Unsplash
WELCOME!
This devotional blog is a weekday "non-fluffy" devotional in the Word based on the two greatest commandments: "Love the Lord, love your neighbor." Each devotion will answer these three questions: What does the message speak to me (the author) today? What is it saying to you (the reader)? And what are we going to do about it? The Bible will speak to us every day if we will let it. So what is it saying today?
You can just come to this page every morning to see the latest blog post, but if you prefer email, subscribe below to have the link to the daily devotion dropped in your email inbox every morning.

Our Groan to His Ears
Read Romans 8:26–27 (NKJV) Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. What it is speaking to me: I have a to-do app. It is awesome. I can schedule reoccurring tasks, subtasks, proje

Non-Performance Seal
Read 2 Corinthians 1:21–22 (NKJV) Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. What It's Speaking to Me Have you ever been in a performance-based relationship? Whether a romantic relationship, or perhaps with a family member or friend? A relationship like that at your job with your boss is to be at least somewhat expected, but if you have ever experienced that kind of dyna

Fruit by Trial
Read Galatians 5:22–26 (NKJV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. What It's Speaking to Me I learned songs in children's church about the fruit of t

Who is Speaking?
Read Mark 13:11 – “And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.” What it is speaking to me I’ve never been in a courtroom to defend my life—and I pray I never will. But I have been in other rooms, having to defend my faith or stand up for truth in situations that could lead to uncomfortable consequences. I’ve also foun

Refined By His Presence
Read Isaiah 6:1,5-7 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple... So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mout

Consuming Fire
Read: Hebrews 12:28-29 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. What it speaks to me today: When you are cleaning a room, there are multiple levels of clean. I know some neat freaks reading this right now have just been triggered. I apologize for this early morning trauma. Take another drink of your coffee, take a deep breath, and give m

Listen to the Spirit
Read: John 16:13–15. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. What is it speaking to me today: In these verses, Jesus is speaking to his

Let Him pray...
Read: Romans 8:26 "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." What it is speaking to me today: The first summer after I finished high school I worked for a plumber who focused on new construction, but from time to time would take repair jobs. One time, we went to an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere to replace a water

His Presence
Read 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. What this speaks to me today There was a revival dubbed the Hebrides Revival which happened on the Isle of Lewis off the coast of Scotland in 1949. It was marked by spontaneous church gatherings and great repentance across the island. People would suddenly feel compelled to go to the church at 11:00 PM or 2:00 AM without any announcement, and prayer and worship would con

Where Does It Begin?
Read Acts 1:4-9, 12-14, 2:1-3 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to

By my spirit...
Zechariah 4:6 –"Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts." What it speaks to me today: My perception of myself is a slippery thing. Sometimes I see myself clearly, sometimes I don't. When I was a child, I knew the limits of my might and power....I had none. I was physically weaker than the adults around me, lacked their resources, wisdom and knowledge, and I wielded no real authority, except over my stuffed animals. And I was keenly aware of that
