Mark 13:11 – “And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.”

What it is speaking to me

I’ve never been in a courtroom to defend my life—and I pray I never will. But I have been in other rooms, having to defend my faith or stand up for truth in situations that could lead to uncomfortable consequences. I’ve also found myself in many unplanned conversations—moments where wisdom or the right words felt far beyond my own understanding. When I’m out of my depth yet called to do kingdom work, the Holy Spirit always shows up for me. Perhaps you’ve experienced this too.

You may have heard the phrase, “God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called.” God always makes provision for the work He has given us to do. Always. His greatest provision is the Holy Spirit. In these verses, Jesus promises that when the time comes for us to speak for His sake, the Spirit will do the talking. That should take some of the fear and anxiety out of these situations for us. We never face our trials alone.

What is it saying to you?

Have you experienced the Holy Spirit speaking through you? How did it go? How was it different?

What are we going to do about it?

Maybe you have a conversation coming up today or this week that you’re not looking forward to. Or maybe one will come unplanned. Pray for the help of the Holy Spirit—and choose to speak anyway. It won’t be you talking.
