Countless Thoughts
Read
Psalms 139:14-18 (NKJV) I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.
What it's speaking to me
We spend so much time thinking about what other people think of us. When you are little, it is about what your friends may think. Or the older kids around you, you hope that they think you are cool, at least a little bit. You get older and it is the same thing in high school, college, all your jobs. You get older and it can carry into your career, your family life, your neighborhood, your kids soccer parents...you get the point. It is really hard not to think about it.
We end up spending a lot of our thoughts thinking about the thoughts of others. Or what we think THEY think or could about us, something we couldn't know anyway, which is confusing to write about much less think about.
That is one of the reasons I really like this Psalm, because it cuts through all my thoughts and their thoughts, and all the other thoughts that haven't been claimed yet. King David is stunned by what GOD thinks of US. More thoughts about us than sand. Just just some sand. ALL the sand.
That is mind-blowing(pun kind of intended). How much time should I really be investing in considering other's thoughts about me, when I consider that my Maker in heaven has literally countless thoughts about me? And each one precious? Come on son...
What is it saying to you?
Whose thoughts about you carry the most weight?
How does it change your day to know God is thinking of you?
What are we going to do about it?
Go outside and grab a handful of sand, dirt, or gravel. Or for the germ conscious, just look at it. Let it remind you how often God thinks of you today.
