Read

(For context, read all of Psalm 105.)

Verses 5 & 8

Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.

He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations.

What it is speaking to me

We are pretty diligent about safeguarding what our children watch on TV. Every once in a while, though, we end up watching something suspenseful enough that my son becomes worried and keeps asking, “What is going to happen? Are they going to make it?” At that point, I usually tell him the ending—or at least that the person he’s worried about is going to make it. Then he calms down and can make it through the scene.

I suspect we’ve all been like my son when talking to the Lord. Our lives get just “suspenseful” enough that we start asking if we’re going to make it. How is it going to play out? What is the ending of our story? And while God doesn’t usually give us the play-by-play, He has given us His Word, which tells us: We are going to make it. In the end, it works out.

The Lord has made us a promise. Psalm 105 tells the story of God’s faithfulness to His promises to the people of Israel (read: us). Maybe the psalmist wrote it first as a worship song. Maybe he wrote it in a time of suspense to remind himself—and his people—of God’s faithfulness. Either way, it reminds us today that we are going to make it. God is faithful.

We don’t have the whole script of our lives, but we do know the ending. God has told us: “We are going to make it.”

What is it saying to you?

Are you in suspense over something?

What has the Lord promised you?

What are we going to do about it?

We are going to remember what God has promised us—whether personally, about a dream or situation, or through the promises in His Word. If in doubt today, do what the psalmist did: remember and praise.
