Superhero Powers

Read:
Ezekiel 36:25–27 (KJV) "Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them."
What it is speaking to me:
I like superheroes.
Let me be clear upfront: I am not a big Marvel movie guy, so don't come running to discuss the latest fan theories. I don't know them. I mean superheroes in general... really more the idea of them. Who doesn't think it would be cool to fly, shoot lasers out of your eyes, or be super strong? Yes, I just described Superman, and yes, he is the best superhero.
Having superpowers would sure come in handy sometimes. I think that is why I love these verses. They describe superhuman power available to the rather powerless person (aka ME). God is describing salvation in vivid imagery. Look at what power HE works in US:
Sprinkled clean and cleansed
A new heart put in
A new spirit put in
The stony heart pulled out
A heart of flesh put in
HIS Spirit put in
That Spirit will cause me to walk uprightly, keep His judgments, and empower me to do them.
Wow. And this work is available to anyone. We don't do anything to deserve it; we simply believe in Jesus, and God does the rest. If this isn't the greatest deal in human history, I don't know what is.
There is a lie of the devil that would have you believe we need to endlessly struggle against sin and the powers of darkness. Where does that lie fit into the verses above? Where is there room for it?
I have been made clean. I have a new heart, a new spirit, and HIS Spirit inside of me. His Spirit empowers me to follow God and walk in righteousness. That is a pretty great superpower. I don't want to live below the power that God has placed inside of me when I got saved. I want to live UP to it. Walk in it. And share that good news with others.
What is it saying to you?
Have you believed a lie of the devil in an area of your life?
Have you failed to avail yourself of the power of the Spirit of God in your life?
What are we going to do about it?
Walk today like a superhero. Walk like the Spirit of God is alive in you, helping you, guiding you, leading you, empowering you. Walk in that awareness today, then reflect at the end of the day on how your day was the same or different.
