Deuteronomy 10:11–13 (KJV)

And the Lord said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them. And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, to keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

What It Is Speaking to Me

If you have never bought a house before, you have not experienced the joy of the underwriting process. This is the process where some stranger you will never meet goes over your financial life with a fine-toothed comb. They can call you throughout the day, asking for more information about literally anything in the last year or two of your bank accounts. You know that random $50 check you deposited 9 months ago? What is it? Who is it from? Why did you get it? Will you get it again? Because if it's a gift it's one thing, if it's income it's another. My wife is a teacher so she couldn't answer the phone during the day, which meant dear ole me got to handle all these glorious phone calls. In the end, we got a home so I guess it was worth it.

Like we possessed our house (well the bank did, but you get the idea!), the people of God were to go into the promised land and possess it. How were they to do that? By fearing the Lord, loving Him, and walking in His ways. In a way, it was their own "underwriting" process. It seems possessing land then and now involves a process. Instead of financial documents and annoying phone calls, the Israelites were to show their fidelity to God.

What land is God calling you to go and possess? (figuratively now... probably). Where is He telling you to go? What is He calling you to do? It will involve a process. And each process to "possess the land" will look a little different for each of us. But I also know that as different as it will be, there will be three things that are exactly the same.

Fear the Lord. Walk in His ways. Love Him with all your heart and soul.

If we can manage that, we will possess the land that God has promised us.

(again, not really talking about land anymore... just in case)

What Is It Saying to You?

What land is God calling you to go and possess?

Are you in process?

How are you doing in that process?

If possible, how could you follow the Lord more in it?

What Are We Going to Do About It?

Take one tangible step toward the "land" God is calling you to possess. Even if it's a tiny one.
