Psalm 62:1–2, 8 “Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.”
What It Is Speaking to Me
Hustle is good… most of the time. My first few jobs were in the food service industry—and those jobs are all hustle. On your feet, constantly moving, always working. I loved it. Shifts flew by, and I enjoyed the bustle of it all. But when I walked off the job at the end of my shift, I left work behind mentally. I worked hard, and then I was done for the day. Easy.
But now hustle culture doesn’t just exist in food service or the trades—it has spread to nearly every industry. For many people, the hustle doesn’t stop when they leave the office. If you’re a parent, you probably have the added hustle of your children’s sports, clubs, and activities. That’s a lot of hustle.
Have we forgotten rest? Are we afraid of it?
I know people who hustle because they’re afraid that if they stop, they won’t have enough—enough provision, enough security, enough success. But we weren’t made to hustle all the time. Constant hustle drains the soul. We are made in the image of God, and even He rested.
Rest for the soul comes through trusting God. There will always be hustle, but our soul can “Selah” in the midst of it.
What Is It Saying to You?
Why do you hustle?
Is your hustle always healthy?
Does your soul feel drained at times?
If you’re hustling all the time—why?
Do you truly trust God’s provision in your life?
What Are We Going to Do About It?
Choose to stop a work or achievement task at a reasonable time today and rest in God’s provision.
