Hindsight Trust

Romans 8:28 (KJV) — And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

What it is speaking to me:

Hindsight is 20/20. You have heard that before. We cannot see our present and future with the same clarity and accuracy that we have when looking back at our past.

We have all experienced hardships and trials. When we are young in the Lord, we do not easily see the good in the moment. More often than not, we cannot see the good God brought out of that hardship until later down the road.

Over time, we hopefully get better at seeing the good sooner, sometimes even right away, but the picture is never clear until the event has passed. In reality, I do not think we ever see the whole picture this side of heaven, but you understand what I am trying to say.

Hindsight, in a way, gives us a tiny window into the way God sees. We see the bigger picture in hindsight. We see the greater good in hindsight. We see the long game and the bigger steps in hindsight. Our vision of the event we lived through is often small when we are in it, but large in hindsight. God is outside of time, so when we use hindsight, we get to see, in a small way, something a little closer to the way God sees it, from a bigger perspective.

So when we face trials, we are armed with hindsight. The hindsight to see the bigger picture of our lives. All the ways God has brought good out of terrible circumstances remain in our cumulative hindsight. That should engender trust for today. Hindsight is 20/20. It is more accurate. So let your trust in God for today's trial be 20/20- in hindsight.

Look back at a painful event and identify one specific, tangible good that God brought out of it. Let that strengthen your trust for today.
