Psalm 73:25–27 (KJV) Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

What it is speaking to me:

It’s Monday. I don’t know how you feel about Mondays. Perhaps you love them, perhaps you hate them. Maybe you’re coming into your week full of energy, vision, and excitement. Or maybe you’re four cups of coffee in and still trying to open your eyes all the way.

We don’t really know what Monday, or the rest of the week, will bring. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, life goes sideways. Maybe it’s our fault; maybe it’s not. That’s part of what the psalmist is talking about here. Life has gone sideways, and maybe it’s his fault. Or maybe he simply means his strength is waning under the onslaught of his week.

You may have noticed I used a lot of “maybes” above—and that was intentional. Life is full of them. The point of these verses, for me, is that there’s one thing that’s NOT a maybe in life: God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

That word "portion" is a Hebrew word that translates more accurately to “lot.” It refers to the land the Lord set aside in Canaan for the tribes of Israel—land that was guaranteed, secured, and set apart for them. Land represented provision, wealth, longevity, and blessing. You can see where I’m going with this.

Our lives are full of “maybes.” But God is our lot—our portion. He is the guarantee of our provision, wealth, longevity, and blessing. That’s the strength of our heart. No matter our Monday or Tuesday lot, our heavenly lot is secure. Guaranteed.

Makes Monday a little bit better, yeah?

What is it saying to you?

What do you think your lot in life is?

What “maybes” are you facing this week?

What are we going to do about it?

Rest in your portion today. Your lot in life includes God Himself.
