Rock vs. Calendar

What It Is Speaking to Me

You ever been in the spot where there aren't enough hours in the day to accomplish the things that need to be done? What about the week? The month? You ever feel like you're in a season of being overworked, with too much to do, and you never seem to be able to catch up enough to relax? And then when you finally do, something else goes wrong. Something breaks at the house. Some drama with the kids takes away the little window of relaxation you had carved out.

Hopefully, you can't identify with anything I just wrote. But if you can, then this Psalm should resonate with you. Now I suspect the "foe" David mentioned was more than an overly busy calendar. But whoever it was for him, and whatever it is for you, it leads to a faint heart. A tired heart. A heart that's worn out. Frayed at the edges. When we reach that point, we should have one destination in mind: "the rock that is higher than I."

And David's prayer is that God would "lead" him there. We need help sometimes finding that rock. David didn't wait until his heart stopped fainting to pray. He prayed from the fainting itself, "from the ends of the earth." He felt as if he was as far from the rock as you can get. David knew he didn't need to get himself together before he called otu. The calling out was and still is the point.

It is thing that leads us to the rock.
